Apostle Oupa Rampa of Word of Christ Ministries has challenged fathers to take care of their children. At a Family Sunday celebration this past Sunday, he said that the role of parenting should not be left to mothers alone, adding that the many social ills such as drug and alcohol abuse were a result of fathers deserting their children.
As a father, you have to know that you are not just a male. You are mandated with taking care of every child that you gave birth to,” he said. He stated that children are innocent, little blessings from God and that men that leave them to be raised by their mothers alone are an embarrassment.
The apostle was angry that even in church, there are men that make women pregnant and abandon them, leaving the mothers to fend for the children on their own. He said other men in church are proud to say they have children, yet they are not involved in raising them.
“Never leave your fatherly roles to the mother. Children need to see and feel you around them. Most important, they need to see how you help their mother in raising them,” he said.
Where fathers are absent, according to the apostle, ‘boys end up wearing earrings, skirts and plaitting their hair.’ He challenge men to be present even in their homes, saying that they are needed for provision, safety and security.
“Winter is fast approaching; make sure your family is warm. If the roof is leaking, fix it. Come home in the evening with plastic bags full of food items and watch your children run to you with excitement. “You are denying yourself blessings if you don’t take care of your family,” he said.
He concluded by saying that being a responsible father means one fears God, citing Psalm 127:1-3, Isaiah 59, and Genesis 1:28 for reference.
