Defending BTC Premiership defending champions Township Rollers have opened yet another chapter in their storied history after beating Young African of Tanzania, 2-1 in Dar Salaam yesterday (Tuesday) during the 2018 CAF Champions league.

Both winger Lemponye FC Tshireletso and midfielder Motsholetsi Sikele ensured that Popa would cruise into the second leg of the CAF champs fixture with a healthy two away goals. This means Popa now have one foot in the CAF champs league group stages where they will be expected to meet the crème dela crème of African club football.

The second leg game scheduled for 17th March at the National stadium is expected to draw multitudes as Popa followers who will come to witness their team in what is increasingly looking like history for Popa.

The Young African, a respected club in their native Tanzania simply had no answers for Popa’s onslaught as headcoach Nikola Kavazovic’s charges went for early goal in the hugely competitive encounter. Rollers who are showing signs of an emerging African football force, kept their composure and rarely made mistakes against their worthy African rivals.

Popa who have endured a hectic and congested fixtures were recently crowned the 2017/18 Mascom Top 8 champions against after an emphatic 4-2 score line before a packed Francistown Sports Complex this past Saturday.

Before conquering the Young Africans, Popa easily beat Sudan’s El-Merrikh 4-2 on aggregate. Rollers who are clearly growing as an African power player have thrived under the watch of Serbian headcoach Nikola Kavazovic. In two weeks, the whole country is expected to come to a stand still and find out whether the marauding Popa will claim the scalp of yet another African giant.
